When we were little, we would sit down to Thanksgiving dinner and we had 5 kernels of corn on our plate. We would go around the room & each of us would list 5 things we were thankful for.
This year there was a large amount of people at the early Thanksgiving my family had a week prior. So my dad had us all narrow it down to one. And somehow I got skipped over. And I'm actually grateful for that. My day had been insanity. I had driven over to my parents upset with my sick husband and pressed for time. I got the food I was in charge of onto the counter and found a place to sit and watch my kids run amuck.
But when it came time to list off our blessings I suddenly became overwhelmed with how very much I am thankful for in my life. This year, the last 5 years, the last 10, my whole life. I couldn't for the life of me narrow it down to one. But here are some things lately that I am incredibly grateful for...
-I have a silverware drawer now. And it makes me happy every time I open it.
-I'm healthy and so is my little family.
-I have children that love me and want to be with me and think I am the greatest & tell me so.
-My husband. Good heavens, my husband. I love him so much.
-My babies, all 3 of them. For their twinkly eyes and funny conversations and snuggles and kisses and notes.
-Family nearby and family far away that fills my heart with happiness and takes care of us and makes life wonderful.
-My good good friends that I love, that make me laugh, and love me for me.
-My job, the friends I meet doing it, and all that it provides for me personally.
-My hairstylist.
-Our safety.
-Our pediatrician.
-Clay's job.
-A fantastically long autumn.
-And that I am able to enjoy life with the use of all my senses.
-Peanut M&M's.
-The magic of the holidays.
On Thanksgiving Day, we hung out with friends for breakfast & a turkey bowl (see picture courtesy of Jess. thanks love!).
Then later we went to Clay's grandma's for Round 2 of Thanksgiving along with a houseful of people I love and got to chit chat and eat. Then I took Brandt & Brooklyn to The Muppets movie while Clay watched football & Brayden at home. I cried 3 times. So did Brooklyn. We smuggled in licorice and, what else? M&M's, of course! Left the movie & ran into one of my best friends growing up, Monica. Smiled the rest of the night because of it. It's been a LONG time since I've seen her.
Dodged the Black Friday shopping and went to breakfast with my lady loves. Tried Kneaders french toast for the first time. Um, yum!!!!
Sunday night we cooked up Round 3 of Thanksgiving at MY house. Clay had a smoked turkey his work gave him. I made stuffing, gravy, & candied yams and his family brought over the rest and it was great! I LOVE Thanksgiving weekend! I love that Clay got to be home the whole time and our family could just enjoy each other.
