Aqua Smack

This is a desk with a hutch on it that sat in my grandma's kitchen while I was growing up. The big drawers had markers and a huge stack of scrap paper for us to color on when we came to visit. The smaller drawers held a sharp pair of silver scissors that we'd use to cut flowers in her yard, yellow notepads, and lots of keys. Grandpa had construction pencils in there too. The smell of her house is still inside the drawers. I love this desk & the memories it brings back to me.

A month ago I painted it blue. But the color made me...nothing. I wasn't in love with it. And if you're going to put the effort of painting something, you should love it, no? So, yesterday, during naptime I painted it, again, to go in my new house.  I love it. This color makes me smile. But if you're afraid of color, it might scare you. I'll post a picture with it all put together once it's completely dry.

It is smack-you-in-the-face aqua. That's not really the name of it, but it's fitting. (it's actually just like the color in the picture in the bottom right corner of the header at the top of this page, but deeper). The neighbor kids love it. Clay thinks it belongs on the set of Smurfs. Haha! It makes me happy.
